This cover was designed with the intention to reflect the novel’s tumultuous themes, aiming to capture a sense of the turmoil, conflict and passion experienced by Baldwin’s characters over the course of the story.

Inspired by Blue Note jazz record labels from the 60s, which utilised typography, composition and colour to reflect the bold, expressive nature of jazz music, the cover repurposes these stylistic techniques in order to reflect the novel’s bold and explosive themes.
