This cover design takes cues from the novel’s remote natural setting and it’s darkly humorous themes of ecocide, folkloric mystery and the macabre.

The illustration is built on layers of loose, textured gouache brushwork, depicting the unforgiving landscape of a frozen Polish winter. Unnatural formations of animal tracks hint at mysterious events, and a suggestive link to astronomical constellations invokes the mystical and superstitious undercurrents of the novel’s narration.
